 Matthew 5:6

Introduction

There is no better life than living in the Kingdom

1. Hungry and Thirsty

v.6 – “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.”

Hunger and Thirst – Peinao – to suffer deep hunger; dipsao – genuine thirst

It is a continual way of life, not just a one-time occurrence!

  • Hunger is a sign of need
  • Hunger is a sign of life
  • Hunger is a sign of health (spiritual health)

Losing appetite is a sign something is wrong (COVID-Phil)

“As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God…” Psalm 42:1,2a

“But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death…” Philippians 3:7-10

“To have found God and still to pursue Him is the soul’s paradox of love.” AW Tozer

“Righteousness” – means to be in right relationship with God; living God’s will

When it comes to righteousness, the blessed people are not those who think they have it, but those who feel the lack of it.

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.” 1 Peter 2:24

“they shall be satisfied” – what a promise!

What do you think will ‘satisfy’ you? That will become your passion!

“For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.” Psalm 107:9

“…but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.” Psalm 34:10

“…but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty forever.” John 4:14

“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger; and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” John 6:35

“A kingdom person has a consuming ambition, not for power or pleasure, not for possessions or praise, but for righteousness.” J MacArthur
