Christ Alone: A Christmas Story
December 7th 2025
John 1:14
Introduction
“Christmas is the greatest announcement that the God of the universe is not content to love us from a distance.” Tim Keller
“The wonder of Christmas is that the Creator of the universe came as a creature, the Author entered His own story.” John Piper
God Became Man to Save Mankind
- “The Word Became Flesh”: The Mystery of the Incarnation
The opening of John’s Gospel takes us to eternity past. Before creation, before angels, before time itself, “In the beginning was the Word.” The Word—Jesus—already existed. He was with God. He was God. He made everything.
“The Word became flesh.”
- God Became Fully Human
“The incarnation means that God knows what it’s like to be you.” Tim Keller
- God Entered Our Weakness, Not Our Strength
“The birth of Christ is God’s declaration that no human weakness is too low for Him to enter.” John Piper
When the Word became flesh, God stepped into your world so that you might step into His.
- “He Dwelt Among Us”: God’s Nearness and Presence
The word “dwelt” is literally “tabernacled”—He pitched His tent among us. John is telling us that Jesus is the new and greater tabernacle—the visible presence of God dwelling with humanity.
- God’s Presence, Once Restricted, Is Now Accessible
God’s presence moved from behind a curtain to walking on dusty Galilean roads.
In Christ, God came close enough to embrace.
- “God With Us” Means God Moves Toward Us, Not Away From Us
All other religions portray humanity reaching upward to find God. Christmas declares the opposite: God comes down to us.
“In Jesus Christ, God moved into the neighborhood.” Tim Keller
- This Presence of God Is Personal, Not Vague
III. “We Have Seen His Glory”: The Revelation of God’s Character
- Glory Revealed in Humility
“The glory of Christ is not merely that He is strong, but that He is strong enough to be weak.” John Piper
- Glory Revealed in Compassion
- Glory Revealed in Sacrifice
God became man so that man might live through Him.
“The manger is the first step to the cross. Christmas is about a God who came to die so that we might live.” Tim Keller
- “Full of Grace and Truth”: The Gift We Receive
- The Truth of God Confronts Us
- The Grace of God Saves Us
“Grace is not a thing; grace is a Person—the Person of Jesus Christ.” John Piper
- Grace and Truth Together Transform Us
- What “God With Us” Means for Us Today
- God With Us Means We Are Never Alone
- God With Us Means God Pursues Us
- God With Us Means God Understands Our Suffering
Whatever we face, Jesus is not surprised by it and not ignorant of it. He has walked through darker valleys and emerged victorious.
- God With Us Means Salvation Is Complete, Personal, and Secure
“Christmas is not advice. Christmas is the announcement that someone has come to save you.” Tim Keller
Conclusion: The Invitation of Christmas
Christmas is not merely the story of a baby. It is the story of a King who stepped into our world to bring us into His. This Christmas, look again at the One who became flesh.
