Malachi 3:6-12
Introduction
True Worship of God Includes All Aspects of Our Lives
- God Doesn’t Change
“For I the Lord do not change, therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.”
Immutability of God - means that God is not subject to change through time or circumstances.
“I will not violate my covenant or alter the word that went forth from my lips.” Ps. 89:34
Change is one thing we can be sure of in this life.
By faith in Jesus Christ, we can have a relationship with the unchanging God! Jesus Himself is unchanging: "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."
“From the days of your fathers you have turned aside from my statues and have not kept them. Return to me and I will return to you says the Lord of host. But you say, How shall we return?
What an incredible invitation from a righteous and holy God, to an unrighteous and unholy people.
2. Don’t Rob God
“Will man rob God? Yet you are robbing me. But you say, How have we robbed you? In your tithes and contributions.
God owns everything; I’m His money manager. We are the managers of the assets God has entrusted–not given–to us.
“Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.”
Test - (bachan/bahan) means to examine, to try, to prove, to scrutinize.
Jesus Words
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
Matthew 6:19,20
"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." Matthew 6:24
Paul’s Words
“But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.” 1 Timothy 6:6-10
“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
2 Corinthians 9:6,7
Convicting Quote
“God prospers me not to raise my standard of living, but to raise my standard of giving.” Randy Alcorn
Giving is the only antidote to materialism. Giving is a joyful surrender to a greater person and a greater agenda. It dethrones me and exalts Him.
