1 Timothy 6
Introduction
Whatever Season of Life You’re in,
Honor God, Be Content, Fight and Be Generous
Honor God
Anytime of slavery is sin, but even slaves should live lives that glorify Jesus and advance the gospel.
Christians have a divinely commanded responsibility to live out their faith in the workplace. Having a proper attitude of submission and respect, and performing quality work, are necessary prerequisites to proclaiming a believable gospel.
v.2 - Paul is saying for slaves to not expect special treatment because the "boss" is a Christian
- Be Content
For the sake of our own soul, be satisfied in God instead of material things
v.6-10 – Godliness – Eusebeia - most literally means "well worship". It describes reverence or awe that is well directed.
Godliness is a practical awareness of God in every aspect of life. Godliness is not talking godly but living godly.
Fight the Good Fight
“Fight the good fight of the faith.”
Part of fighting is ‘Fleeing’ and fighting is using energy to win the battle.
Fighting is also ‘taking hold of something’ in this case eternal life!
“Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called…”
SEIZE THE LIFE GOD PROMISES IN CHRIST
Be Generous
In view of God’s majesty, we fight the good fight of faith, using our material resources for eternal gain.
The contented person is never poor; the discontented is never rich.
The best remedy for greed is generosity.
