Exodus 11:1-13:16
Introduction
Remember ALWAYS, God’s Saving Power and Grace in Every Generation
The series of signs and wonders comes to a climax with the death of firstborn and the
Passover.
I. Remember the Blood of the Lamb
The firstborn plague we see God commanding a demonstrative act on Israel’s part to
show that they are not like the Egyptians. Israel was told to use the blood of the lamb as a physical and visible sign of its distinction from the Egyptians.
a) Firstborn death – Israel needed to be redeemed – the blood of the lamb over the
doorpost meant that death would ‘pass over’ the household. No blood, firstborn
would die just like the Egyptian’s firstborn.
b) Firstborn death – would always be linked to the redemption and release from
Egypt
c) Firstborn death – Passover was so significant that God changes their calendar –
meaning a new beginning!

Jesus is our perfect Passover Lamb
“…For Christ our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.” 1 Corinthians 5:7
Jesus was the spotless, sinless, lamb sacrificed for each of us who believe in His name
“…knowing that you were ransomed from the futile way inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot…” 1 Peter 1:18,19

II. Remember the Severity and Kindness of God
God is both wrath and mercy. He is kind and sever as well. God, in all his attributes is
holy and just.
“Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God’s kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off.” Romans 11:22

III. Remember the Strong Hand of the Lord
13:1 – “Then Moses said to the people, ‘Remember this day in which you came out from Egypt, out of the house of slavery, for by a strong hand the Lord brought you out from this place.”
4x (13:3,9,14,16) it says that they are to remember their deliverance from Egypt came from the ‘strong hand of the Lord.’
God not only delivered them, but now wants to consecrate all the firstborn to him…both man and beast (13:1).
Consecrate means to ‘make holy by giving to God.’ This reminds Israelites were spared
by God when the plague came upon Egypt.
