Exodus: From Bondage to Liberation

Exodus 3-7:7
Introduction
God, Powerful and Mighty, Uses Imperfect People to Accomplish His Perfect Will
I. God’s Name
v.14 - “God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM” and he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: “I AM has sent me to you.”
I AM is eternal
The word eternal means "everlasting, having no beginning and no end." Psalm 90:2
I AM is self- sufficient
God is holy, eternal, almighty, and totally self-sufficient. He does not need any created
being, but we do need Him. All of creation is dependent on the life that God alone
sustains. God is not dependent on anything or anyone. He suffers no lack, knows no
limitation, and experiences no deficiency. If He needed anything to stay alive or to feel
complete, then He would not be God.
I AM is Holy
The holiness of God refers to the unparalleled majesty of His incomparable being and
His blameless, faultless, unblemished moral purity. There is not even the faintest trace
of evil. God is impeccably pure, wholly without fault, and uncompromisingly just. God
cannot lie. He cannot make wrong decisions. He is blameless, timeless, and sinless.
I AM is All Powerful (Omnipotent)
If God is eternal, and if He is sovereign, which we know He is, then He must also be
omnipotent. He has all power over all things at all times and in all ways. 
“I know that you can do all things and that no plan of yours can be thwarted.” Job 42:2
I AM is Faithful
“Moreover, I have heard the groanings of the people of Israel whom the Egyptians hold
as slaves, and I have remembered my covenant.” Exodus 6:5
The only way for us to KNOW God is if he reveals himself to us! God has revealed
himself to us in three ways:
1) Creation – Romans 1:18-20
2) Jesus Christ – I AM’s of Jesus
“I and the Father are one.” John 10:30
“Before Abraham was, I Am.” John 8:58
3) The Word of God - 2 Timothy 3:16

II. God Calls
3:10 – “Come, I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring my people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.”
Moses: “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of
Egypt.”
God: But I will be with you and this shall be a sign for you that I have sent you…
Moses: What is your name?
God: Tell them, “I AM sent me to you”
Moses: “They won’t believe me or listen to my voice.”
God: What is in your hand? A staff…throw it on the ground…becomes a serpent
Moses: “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent…I am slow of speech and tongue
God: “I made man’s mouth, I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall
speak
Moses: “Oh, my Lord, please send someone else.”
God: Upset…Is there not Aaron your brother the Levite? He will speak for you.
III. God Sends
Moses, his family and Aaron return to Egypt (4:18) and gather the elders (4:29). Moses tells them what God has said and performs many signs and the people believed.
The people and Moses’s response to this: 5:22
“Then Moses turned to the Lord and said, O Lord, why have you done evil to this
people? Why did you ever send me? For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your
name, he has done evil to this people, and you have not delivered your people at all.”
IV. God Saves
“But the Lord said to Moses, “Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh; for with a
strong hand he will send them out, and with a strong hand he will drive them out of his land.” Exodus 6:1
I will’s of God – 6:6 – Say therefore to the people of Israel, I am the LORD, and
I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians
I will deliver you from slavery to them
I will redeem you with an outstretched arm
I will take you to be my people and
I will be your God and you shall know that I am the LORD
I will bring you into the land that I swore to give to Abraham, to Isaac, to Jacob. I
will give it to you for a possession, I am the LORD.
