INTRODUCTION
The New Testament is in the Old Testament CONCEALED…and the Old Testament is in the New Testament REVEALED.
Hebrews 3:1-6
1. THEREFORE, CONSIDER JESUS…
Chapter 2 delves into the priesthood of Christ, showing how superior was Jesus over the angels, and how that His suffering has brought many sons to glory.
Based on all of that teaching – the Writer to Hebrews appeals to his audience based on the doctrinal edification that he just gave them in chapter 2.
HOLY BROTHERS
CONSIDER JESUS, the apostle and high priest – that he had just written about in chapter 2.
Remember that each and every word of the Bible is inspired. There are no throw-away words, or useless thoughts. It ALL has meaning.
Jesus was both an APOSTLE, and a HIGH PRIEST.
2. WORTHY OF MORE GLORY THAN MOSES
First – look at the Moses’ life and background.
Moses had received much glory from God. He was called in Numbers “the most humble man on earth.”
But his glory was no match…for the Glory reserved for Jesus.
3. THE MINISTER…AND THE MAKER
The Writer to the Hebrews uses a metaphor to push this point – he uses a house, and the builder of the house. Which receives more glory?
Moses was a great leader in the house of God…
But Jesus was the maker of that house…

“Christ is the maker of this house of the church in all ages: Moses was a minister in the house, he was instrumental under Christ in governing and edifying the house, but Christ is the maker of all things; for he is God, and no one less than God could build the church, either lay the foundation or carry on the superstructure….Christ, who is God, drew the ground-plan of the church, provided the materials, and by almighty power disposed them to receive the form; he has compacted and united this his house, has settled the orders of it, and crowned all with his own presence, which is the true glory of this house of God.”

~ Matthew Henry

Consider these points of contrast between Moses and Jesus:
- Moses was born unto an Israelite family, the genesis of his life.
- Jesus was with the Father from eternity past.
- Moses was raised a prince, receiving a royal education.
- Jesus grew up in the home of a carpenter, but also in the presence of the Father and the Holy Spirit, to the point that He was able to confound the teachers of the law at age 12.
- Moses put himself in jeopardy, killing an Egyptian, then fleeing into exile.
- Jesus put himself in the crosshairs of those that hated him – willingly going to the cruel cross, yet asking God to forgive the haters who put him there.
- Moses led Israel out of Egypt, only to have to wander in the desert for 40 more years.
- Jesus first went into the desert for 40 days…to be tempted by Satan, but he endured in victory, going on to become the chief cornerstone of the church.
- Moses angrily struck the rock when he was told to speak to it…and was not able to walk in the promised land.
- Jesus was struck with the spear, and his holy blood flowed down, covering our sins and appeasing the wrath of God.
- Moses was buried in Moab, only seeing the Promised Land from a distance.
- Jesus was buried in a borrowed tomb – but rose on the third day, and after 50 days,
ascended to the Right Hand of God as the reigning Messiah.

“The primary difference between Moses and Jesus is that Moses was God’s servant, and Jesus is God’s Son. Moses at his best could only participate in and foreshadow redemption, but Jesus actually accomplished it for his people. Jesus, as the God-Man, served as the mediator of the covenant of grace which secured, not the deliverance of an ancient nation from the clutches of a ruthless dictator, but rather the salvation of his people from their own sin and the wrath of a holy God.”
