Exodus 1:1-7
Introduction

God is Faithful to His People

I. Why Exodus
The book of Exodus was written for the purpose of remembrance. In writing this book,
Moses is inviting future generations of the people of God to recall their identity:
 to remember who they are
 where they came from and
 why they were called

“God’s delivering of his people from bondage in Egypt is the most significant redemptive event of the Old Testament.” Anthony Selvaggio

“The exodus event serves as the most powerful type showing forth the pattern of God’s redemption.” Anthony Selvaggio

II. Israel and Us
As believers in Jesus today, we share much in common with Israel. Exodus teaches us
that like Israel we are:

 Saved from something – from slavery of sin
 Saved for something – to witness and to worship
 Saved by the blood of a lamb – Passover
 Saved and now sojourners seeking to glorify God in word and deed until
we reach the promised land
