1 Peter 2:1-12
Introduction
Knowing who you are will determine how you live
I. Where’s Your Focus (v.1-3)
v.1 – “So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander.”
We are to put away all malice
v.2 – “Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up
into the salvation…”
pure - means without guile, without deceit
“To drink the milk of the Word is to ‘taste’ again and again what He is like, for in the
hearing of the Lord’s words believers experience the joy of personal fellowship with the
Lord Himself.” Wayne Grudem
II. Who Are You (v.4-12)
Identity:
Living stones
Spiritual house being built
A holy priesthood
What are we to do?
Offer spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable
Spiritual sacrifices: Our bodies, prayers of praise, thanksgiving, intercession,
material gifts,
v.9,10 – Identity:
a chosen race
a royal priesthood
a holy nation
a people for his own possession
What are we to do?
Proclaim the excellencies of him – darkness into light
