John 14:1-5
Introduction
There is salvation only in Jesus Christ alone and no other – Solus Christus
Why is Jesus the unique, exclusive, and all-sufficient Savior? The Bible’s short
answer is because Jesus alone can meet our need, accomplish all of God’s
sovereign purposes, and save us from our sin.
Who Jesus is and what he does is the only way God could redeem us.
"And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven
given among men, by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
I. No Other Name…By Which We Must be Saved
What makes Jesus Christ so unique? There are two things that make Jesus
Christ the only way to God.
a) Jesus is unique because of who He is.
Jesus Christ was God in the flesh. He was the God-Man. This is called the
incarnation. God becoming human…Jesus was and is fully God and fully man.
“No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has
made him known.” John 1:18
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.” Col. 1:15
He is the only savior, for the simple reason that He alone is God.  No mere
human being can save us, but the God-man Jesus Christ has provided a way for
us to be reconciled to God. Being the God-man is what has made him unique!
Why did God become man?
“She will bear a son, and, you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his
people from their sins.” Matthew 1:21
b) Jesus is unique because of what He did.
He live a sinless life. He obeyed His Father faithfully even unto death.
“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our
weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet
without sin.” Hebrews 4:15

He died as our substitute. Jesus paid our debt for us by dying on the cross and
suffering the wrath of God in our place.
“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died
for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was
raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures…” 1 Corinthians 15:3,4
He rose from the dead (as we just read) and ascended to Heaven and sits at the
right hand of the Father and will return again one day to Earth.
Are Christians dogmatic to say that Jesus is the only way to God? Yes.  We
are dogmatic because God is dogmatic.  Why do we believe that Jesus
Christ is the only way to God?  Because God says so.
II. Salvation in No One Else
This is the supreme irony of the Christian faith that we are both saved by
God and from God.
“The God of perfect holiness, who demands satisfaction for His justice and who
will not wink at sin, has from eternity decreed that He Himself should provide
salvation to those very people who, by their sin, are exposed to His wrath and
judgment.” RC Sproul
The reason the Reformers fought so hard for solus Christus was that our very
salvation rests on Christ’s person and finished work.
The Bible presents Jesus Christ as the only mediator between a holy God and
sinful man. God saves sinners solus Christus (Christ alone).
1 Timothy 2:5,6 – “For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God
and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is
the testimony given at the proper time.”
III. Conclusion
Christianity is an inclusive invitation to an exclusive relationship!
